Let’s Talk About Natural Acne
Remedies
Recent
statistics show that a growing number of people are
turning to natural acne remedies as their main method of
treatment for their condition. This is because some
chemical treatments that can be bought at drug stores are
overly harsh, especially for sensitive
skin.
There are two main types of natural acne
remedies:
- Those you can buy
over-the-counter
- Those you make at home
Both are very effective when used properly and the one
you choose to treat your acne is a matter of personal
choice.

Over-the-counter Natural Acne
Remedies
The natural acne remedies that you can buy from drug
stores and other stores tend to contain either aloe Vera or tea
tree oil. Both of these natural herbs have antibacterial
properties, which allow them to weaken or kill the bacteria in
acne. Once the bacteria are dead, your immune system can
destroy them and expel them from your body. Aloe Vera also has
anti-inflammatory properties and products containing this
active ingredient can reduce the redness and pain that often
accompanies acne.
It is important to watch the strength of
over-the-counter natural acne remedies. Some tea tree oil
cleansers can have a drying effect on sensitive skin so a
weaker product might be a better choice. Aloe Vera comes in a
wide range of products including cleansers, face washes, gels,
toners, and skin creams. This means you can make your entire
cleansing regime aloe Vera based if you wish.
Two other over-the-counter products that help to treat
acne in a natural way are vitamin A and E capsules and Zinc.
Vitamins A and E are well known antioxidants and they can help
to protect your skin from the bacteria and free radical damage
that causes acne. These vitamins are found in a range of fruits
and vegetables if you don’t want to take capsules and they are
ingredients in various acne creams and lotions. Zinc is a trace
mineral that helps to eliminate harmful toxins from the body
before they can accumulate and cause damage. Large amounts of
the mineral are present in liver, wheat germ and wheat bran,
pine nuts, fish and eggs or alternatively you can take zinc
capsules once a day.
Home Based Natural Acne Remedies
In addition to the natural acne remedies mentioned
above there are several useful treatments that can be made at
home. These remedies are best used in conjunction with aloe
Vera or tea tree oil products although they can also have a
positive effect when used alone.
You can easily make a natural exfoliate with fine
oatmeal and water. Using this as you would a chemical exfoliate
has the same scrubbing effect on the skin but without the
harshness of chemicals. Before exfoliating with this oatmeal
mix it is advisable to open the pores of the skin with a facial
steam bath. For this, you just need hot water and a mixture of
chamomile, mint, marigold, marjoram, and rose petals. The steam
helps to open the pores while the flower infusions have a
gentle cleansing effect.
After opening the pores lightly rub the oatmeal
mixture on your face, washing your face with a cool washcloth
will close the pores. After you have closed, the pores apply a
homemade herbal cream to the effected acne areas. You can make
your herbal cream with beeswax, almond or grape seed oil, and
20-30 drops of sandalwood essential oil. These are totally
natural acne remedies to try at home.
